Mass Pike ramp in Back Bay closed by pedestrian injury

Boston police cordoned off the ramp leading to the Mass Pike westbound in Back Bay.

Boston Emergency Medical Services responded to a report of an injured pedestrian near the intersection of Massachusetts Avenue and Newbury Street on Thursday night.

Boston EMS Lieutenant Robert Barnes said the person was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. “The police are investigating,” he said.

Boston police cordoned off the on-ramp to the Massachusetts Turnpike in Back Bay late Thursday night. A handful of police responded to the busy intersection shortly before midnight.

Both sides of Massachusetts Avenue at the intersection of Commonwealth Avenue were closed to traffic.

A Boston police spokesman could not immediately be reached for comment.

Massachusetts State Police also could not be reached for comment.
