Two Dorchester teenagers were arrested Friday afternoon in connection with the slaying of a 17-year-old last month.
Boston police arrested Rishaard Sheppard, 18, and Branden Singleton-Legget, 18, on murder charges in connection with the homicide of Chad O’Connor in Dorchester, authorities said.
The duo allegedly took part in a group attack on Kenwood Street during which O’Connor was beaten and shot on Jan. 14, according to the Suffolk district attorney’s office. O’Connor was pronounced dead at the scene.
Commissioner William B. Evans commended officers for their work on the case.
“Clearly, an arrest like this not only makes our city safer but should also send a loud, clear message that gun violence of any kind will not be tolerated in our city,” Evans said. “ To the family and friends of Chad O’Connor, it is my sincere hope that the news of today’s arrests will provide for them some small measure of comfort and closure.”
Authorities think others may have been involved in the attack and are encouraging anyone with information to contact police at 617-343-4470.
Sheppard faces an additional charge of unlawful possession of a firearm. Singleton-Legget faces a charge of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, a shod foot.
The pair are scheduled to be arraigned Monday in Dorchester Municipal Court, according to the DA’s office.Danny McDonald can be reached at daniel.mcdonald@ globe.com. Follow him on Twitter @Danny__McDonald.
