Three elderly Mass. residents killed in crash in upstate New York

Three elderly Massachusetts residents were killed in a single-car rollover crash in upstate New York Wednesday morning, police said.

The crash claimed the lives of Maria Braga, 81, of Fall River; David M. Botelho, 73, of Westport; and Isabel Botelho, 72, of Westport, New York State Police said in a statement.

The driver of the vehicle, 81-year-old Joao Braga of Fall River, was taken to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse.


Police responded to the crash on the New York State Thruway in Verona around 10:30 a.m., according to the statement.

A preliminary investigation found that the vehicle lost control and rolled over near mile marker 256, police said.

The crash remains under investigation.
