Malden man shot in the leg in Chelsea

A 23-year-old Malden man was shot in the leg in Chelsea Friday afternoon, police said.

The man was taken to CHA Everett Hospital with a wound to his left ankle, Police Chief Brian Kyes posted on Twitter. He is expected to survive.

A black four-door sedan was seen fleeing the shooting near Clyde and Exeter streets, Chelsea police said in a statement. Kyes said on Twitter that the car was a “newer model Toyota — possibly [a] Camry.”

Kyes said that the incident appeared to be a drive-by shooting. Police said they believe that it was not random.
