Two Braintree schools to be closed Monday for storm repair

Two Braintree schools will be closed Monday due to heavy roof damage sustained in Friday’s Nor’easter, according to the school superintendent.

Ross Elementary School and South Middle School had extensive damage from the storm, which brought high winds and driving rains to Massachusetts.

A roofing contractor and an engineer will be assessing damages at both schools on Sunday, School Superintendent Frank Hackett wrote in a Facebook posting.

“The damaged sections of both roofs will be removed, secured, and weatherized,” Hackett wrote in the post on Saturday. “Once the structural evaluation is complete, we will be able to determine our next course of action.”

An update on the building repairs is expected by late Sunday afternoon, he said.

The cancellation at Ross includes all kindergarten students, including those who attend the Monatiquot School Kindergarten Center, Hackett said.

All other Braintree Public Schools will be in session Monday.
