The public should expect 10 to 15 minute delays on the Orange Line after firefighters put out a small fire on the State Street station’s northbound tracks, according to an MBTA alert sent just before 10:25 p.m. Wednesday.
Trains may have to stand by while workers enter the track area, according to the alert.
Boston fire spokesman Marc Sanders said firefighters received a call around 10:04 p.m. reporting a small fire on the third rail at the T station.
The T had to shut down Orange Line service so that firefighters could put out the small blaze, he said.
The preliminary investigation suggests the fire was caused by an electrical short-circuit, said Sanders. Debris was smoldering on the track when firefighters arrived. By 10:45 p.m., firefighters had put out the fire and cleared the station, but MBTA personnel were still on the scene, said Sanders.Danny McDonald can be reached at email@example.com.
