A 67-year-old woman was critically injured when she was hit by a snow plow outside Tufts Medical Center on Wednesday night, Boston Police Commissioner William B. Evans said.
The driver of the pickup truck stayed at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation now being led by the Boston police homicide unit, he said.
The plow driver is a private contractor hired by Tufts Medical Center to clear streets and sidewalks around hospital grounds, Evans said.
The woman was struck by the plow at about 11:17 p.m., said Officer James Kenneally, a department spokesman.
In a statement, Tufts Medical Center said the woman was crossing Nassau Street when she was struck, and that she is in critical condition. “We are deeply saddened by this tragic accident and our thoughts are with the patient and her family,’’ the statement reads.
