A 34-year-old Lowell man wanted on a warrant for armed assault with intent to murder was arrested Thursday in a Motel 6 in Tewksbury.
Police also arrested a Salem, N.H., woman on firearms and drug charges during a check of the motel, at 95 Main St., Tewksbury police announced Friday.
Clifford Lawrence, a guest at the motel, was arrested after police learned that he was wanted for armed assault with intent to murder and three counts of violating an abuse prevention order, according to a Tewksbury police press release.
Maureen Roddy, 33, was with Lawrence in the motel room and was found to be in possession of a loaded handgun without a license and a cocaine.
She was arrested and charged with carrying a loaded firearm without a license, possession of ammunition without an firearms identification card, improper storage of a firearm, and possession of a controlled substance.
An investigation by Tewksbury police detectives, along with agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, revealed that Roddy had allegedly recently bought multiple guns in New Hampshire for Lawrence. He was charged with a firearm violation with one prior violent crime, possession of ammunition without an firearms identification card, and improper storage of a firearm, according to the release.
The two suspects were arraigned Friday in Lowell District Court, according to Tewksbury police.
