Police arrest Everett man who allegedly led officers on a multi-town car chase ending in Acton

Littleton police arrested an Everett man after a multi-town car chase that ended in Acton, officials said.

John Hickey, 31, was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon and faces a slew of charges, police said in a statement.

Two other men and a woman were in the car during the pursuit. Passenger Dylan Brunetto, 27, of Billerica, was arrested on an outstanding warrant. A clerk-magistrate declined to issue a criminal complaint against the other man and the woman, police said.

The chase went through Littleton, Harvard, Boxborough, and Acton, where the Subaru driven by Hickey crashed into another car, police said. No one was injured.

Officers believe that the individuals were involved in a shoplifting incident at Shaw’s in Groton prior to the pursuit, police said.

Hickey was charged with conspiring to rob a store, failing to stop for police, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, operating a motor vehicle with a revoked license, speeding, a marked lanes violation, and failing to stop/yield at a red light, police said.

He was arraigned at Ayer District Court Tuesday afternoon, and held on $2,500 cash bail. He’s expected to reappear in court for a pretrial on May 22.

Brunetto was held on the existing warrant, which was for a prior shoplifting incident out of Waltham District Court, according to the Ayer District Court’s office.

Officials have yet to charge anyone but Hickey for the Groton shoplifting incident, but the investigation is open and ongoing, according to the Middlesex district attorney’s office.
