The Poor People's Campaign commenced a six week season of actions by marching to the Massachusetts State House, holding a rally, and finally approximately 16 protestors got arrested inside the state house.

Sixteen protesters were arrested on trespassing charges at the State House Monday evening, police said.

The 13 women and three men were part of a rally in favor of letting undocumented immigrants obtain driver’s licenses, police said.

The protesters “refused requests to disperse after the building closed for the night,” State Police spokesman Dave Procopio said.

Officers “offered to summons them to court on trespassing charges in lieu of arresting them” if they agreed to leave, but they refused and “maintained their desire to be arrested,” Procopio said.

They were then taken into custody and booked on trespassing charges around 7 p.m. They were likely to be released Monday night, Procopio said. They will be scheduled to appear later in Boston Municipal Court.
