A water main break in Newton Thursday afternoon caused traffic delays and forced water service to be shut off to some residents, officials said.
Public Works Commissioner Jim McGonagle said about 4 inches of water flooded Winchester Street near Route 9 during the afternoon commute.
“Right now, both lanes are open, but there is congestion,” McGonagle said.
McGonagle said public works officials were working to repair the break.
“We should have water back up and running tonight,” he said.
Newton police advised residents to stay away from the area.Laney Ruckstuhl can be reached at email@example.com. Follow her on Twitter @laneyruckstuhl.
