Taunton motorcyclist killed after crash with box truck in Fall River

A Taunton man died Thursday morning after his motorcycle collided with a box truck in Fall River, fire officials said.

Officials believe Christopher P. Mills, 29, was traveling north on Highland Avenue at 6 a.m. when the box truck, which was traveling south on Highland Avenue, began to turn onto Courtney Street, according to a statement from Bristol District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn’s office.

The motorcycle attempted to stop, creating a 25-to-30-yard skid mark, before ramming into the passenger side of the box truck at 2446 Highland Ave.

This information is “only preliminary,” the statement said, as the investigation is ongoing.

“When we arrived, we found the male lying in the middle of the road,” Fall River Fire Captain Neil Furtado said.

Mills was treated at the scene, then transported to Rhode Island Hospital in “critical condition,” Furtado said. He was pronounced dead shortly before 7 a.m.

The man who was driving the truck was not injured in the accident, the statement said.

No charges have been filed at this time.
