The Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department arrested 20 protesters outside the South Bay House of Correction in Boston during an immigration rally Saturday evening, authorities said.

Boston Police were called to assist with the arrests at about 7 p.m., according to a police spokesman, Officer Stephen McNulty.

The protesters were charged with trespassing and disorderly conduct, McNulty said. The arrests were made by deputies from the sheriff’s department because the incident took place on the department’s property, McNulty said.

The sheriff’s department could not be reached for comment Sunday, and the protesters’ arraignment information was not immediately available.
