Man found dead in New Hampshire river

The body of a middle-aged man was found in New Hampshire’s Contoocook River on Sunday afternoon, officials said.

New Hampshire State Police’s marine patrol was notified of an unresponsive man in the river in the area of Island Shores Estates in Concord at 4:55 p.m., police said in a statement. The man, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A person who was on the river discovered the body and reported it to officials.


The man was wearing red and black swimming trunks, a sleeveless gray t-shirt, and a red bracelet with the words “In Memory of Papa Weed.” He had an American flag tattoo on his right bicep and a blue-colored tattoo, with possible names under it, on his left bicep.

Police said the man’s identity and “circumstances of [his] entry into the water” are under investigation.

An autopsy is scheduled for July 9.
