Driver dies in crash in South Boston

Traffic had to be diverted as a result of the crash that occurred Wednesday morning at the intersection of Massport Haul Road.

A 59-year-old man died after his vehicle struck a tractor trailer carrying a crane in South Boston on Wednesday morning.

State Police said troopers responded to the scene at approximately 7:08 a.m. and found that a 2015 Nissan Rogue had crashed into a tractor trailer at the intersection of Bypass Road and Massport Haul Road. Preliminary investigation by Trooper Christopher Amate indicated that the driver of the Nissan was exiting the Massachusetts Turnpike and failed to stop at the red light, according to police.

The 59-year-old driver suffered serious injuries and was taken to Tufts Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead. State Police said the crash remains under investigation.
