Westwood police “swooped in” and performed “hockey net surgery” to save an owl after it became entangled Saturday morning, police said.

The owl was found stuck in the net in the 400 block of Sandy Valley Road around 11:47 a.m., Westwood emergency dispatcher Mary LaFleur said.

The owl was “fighting for his life,” Westwood Chief of Police Jeff Silva tweeted. The officers were able to free the owl, which then “flew away unscathed.”
