Firefighters quickly doused a two-alarm blaze in a Harvard Square restaurant Tuesday morning.
The fire at the building at 1 Story St. and 52 Brattle St. began in the restaurant on the first floor of a three-story brick and wood building, and spread to the floors above, the Cambridge Fire Department said in a tweet.
The fire melted gas meters, which fueled the fire up the side to the roof, and through the ductwork of a first-floor restaurant, Toscano, the department said.
Eversource officials arrived at the scene and shut off the restaurant’s gas.
The fire was reported shortly after 10 a.m. Fire officials said just before 11 a.m. that the fire had been knocked down and some fire companies were preparing to leave the scene. No injuries were reported, and all occupants in the building were quickly evacuated, the department said.

“Fire companies made an aggressive attack and quickly contained and knocked down the fire,” the department said.
The building houses the Toscano restaurant. A picture retweeted by the Fire Department showed two ladder trucks with their ladders extended on Brattle Street in front of the building.
Fire officials said there was minor damage to the building behind the restaurant at 5 Story St., which is an apartment complex.
Fire officials said streets in the area were closed.
