Woman shot in Topsfield, flown to Boston hospital

A 64-year-old woman was shot inside a home in Topsfield Saturday afternoon and flown to a Boston hospital for treatment of serious injuries, officials said.

The woman was shot once in the chest inside 4 Juniper Lane, Topsfield Police Chief Evan Haglund told reporters at the scene.

Topsfield police and fire responded to a report of a shooting at the home at 4:24 p.m., Haglund said.

The woman suffered “potentially life-threatening” injuries, Topsfield Fire Chief Jen Collins-Brown said in a telephone interview.

The woman was conscious and alert when transported to Beverly Hospital, officials said.

She was later airlifted to Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, said David Procopio, a spokesman for the Massachusetts State Police.

The shooting is under investigation, Haglund said.

No further information was immediately available Saturday night.
