JP man arrested on gun charges after chase

A Jamaica Plain man was arrested on gun charges after a foot chase in Roxbury Sunday morning, according to Boston police.

Eddy Baez, 26, took off running after officers approached him and another male who police said were loitering in a parking lot near the Bromley Heath Housing Development at about 12:45 a.m., police said in a statement.

Police said Baez was “clutching at the waistband area of his pants” as he ran and later pulled out a gun as police pursued him through a courtyard about ten feet behind.

Officers drew their weapons and continued to chase Baez, who refused verbal commands to drop the gun, police said in the statement.

As officers closed in, Baez threw a loaded pistol down a staircase in the area of 9 Horan Way, according to the statement. He was arrested on Heath Street, police said.

Baez is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court on multiple gun changes and charges of resisting arrest, according to police.
