The body of a 47-year-old man has been recovered off the coast of Rockport, where federal, state, and local authorities had been searching since Wednesday for a missing diver.

The diver’s body was recovered Thursday around 8:30 a.m., according to Rockport police.

“Rockport police report that the body of the diver has been found. The victim has been tentatively identified as a 47-year-old man from Philadelphia,’’ police said in a statement.

The man’s name was being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

A friend of the diver’s told authorities they were diving about 150 yards offshore when he went missing around 5:15 p.m. Wednesday. The divers were near swimming near Cathedral Rock, which is near the intersection of Cathedral Avenue and Green Street, Rockport police said.

The Coast Guard sent two boats and a helicopter to the scene Wednesday, joining efforts by Rockport police, fire, and harbormaster’s office along with State Police. The Coast Guard cutter Reef Shark also took part in the search.
