MS-13 gang member sentenced in 2015 murder of 15-year-old boy in East Boston

An MS-13 gang member was sentenced in federal court in Boston on Monday for his role in the murder of a 15-year-old boy in East Boston in 2015, prosecutors said.

Carlos Melara, 21, a Salvadoran national, pleaded guilty in April to RICO conspiracy, the US Attorney’s office said in a statement.

Melara was sentenced to 36 years in prison and five years of supervised release. He will be subject to deportation after finishing his sentence, prosecutors said.

In 2015, Melara, Edwin Gonzalez, Henry Parada Martinez, and a juvenile, all members of MS-13’s “Everett Locos Salvatrucha” clique, used a fake Facebook account to trick 15-year-old Wilson Martinez into thinking he was talking with a girl. On Sept. 7, pretending to be a friend of the girl, Melara picked up Martinez on a scooter, drove him to Constitution Beach, then stabbed him about 33 times with Gonzalez, Parada Martinez and the juvenile, authorities said.

Gonzalez and Parada Martinez were convicted of RICO conspiracy. The juvenile was charged separately, officials said.

Gonzalez is also scheduled to be sentenced on Oct. 22 for his role in another murder of a 16-year-old boy in East Boston in 2016, prosecutors said.
