Green Line service resumes, all-clear given at Boston University

Boston police confronted and chased a male who had an Airsoft pellet gun in his hand in the Kenmore Square area at about 1 p.m. Tuesday.

Police responded to a report of a male with a handgun in the area of 833 Beacon St. and approached the suspect, who fled on foot, said Maisha Miraj, a police spokeswoman. The pellet gun was later found in the area.

With officers in pursuit, the suspect got on a Green Line train and then got off at Kenmore Square Station and went into the Barnes & Noble store there.

Boston police, State Police, and MBTA Transit Police conducted a safety sweep of the store, but could not find the suspect, she said. They did obtain surveillance video, she noted.

Service on the Green Line was disrupted during a police search of the tunnels.

A spokesman for the MBTA said trolley cars had been held between Kenmore and Government Center. Boston University police issued a shelter-in-place order for all buildings in and near the Kenmore Square area while the search was underway.
