Tufts University early Thursday removed signs with the phrase “It’s okay to be white” that had been attached to posters supporting a university campaign urging students to vote in the coming election.
In a statement, the university said the signs were affixed to around eight of the “JumboVote” posters that had been installed in the school’s academic quad. (Jumbo the elephant is the school mascot.)
Tufts University Police removed the signs but left the original posters in place.
The defacement of the posters was first reported in the student-run Tufts Daily.
The university said an investigation is underway.John R. Ellement can be reached at email@example.com. Follow him on Twitter @JREbosglobe.
