A Lawrence man wanted on a charge of assault with intent to rape a child was arrested Wednesday in New Jersey, where he was going by an alias, Boston police said.
Edwin Fantauzzi, 30, was taken into custody without incident by police Bayonne, N.J., Boston police said in a statement.
He was using the name Roberto Santiago at the time of his arrest, police said.
Fantauzzi was apprehended less than 24 hours after Boston police asked the public to help locate him.
He allegedly attacked the child in the area of 10 Hammond St. in Roxbury on Nov. 3, police said in a press release.
Fantauzzi is being held at the Hudson County Correctional Facility as a Fugitive from Justice and awaiting extradition back to Boston, according to the release.
