Police are investigating a fatal shooting in Jamaica Plain

Law enforcement officials are investigating a fatal shooting in Jamaica Plain early Thursday morning, police said.

Officers responded around 1:14 a.m. to shots fired near Chestnut Avenue and Hoffman Street, Boston police said in a statement.

A man was found at the scene with life-threatening gunshot wounds. He was taken to a local hospital, where he later died the statement said.

The incident marks the third fatal shooting in Jamaica Plain this week. A man and a woman, who were in their 30s, were shot Monday afternoon in the Mildred C. Hailey Apartments.

Authorities have urged anyone with information on Thursday’s shooting to call Boston police homicide detectives at 617-343-4470.
