Victims of wrong-way crash in Lawrence identified
The two people killed in a wrong-way driving crash on Interstate 495 in Lawrence have been identified as Jyllian McGonagle and Nelson Rivera, State Police said Thursday.
McGonagle, 38, of Lawrence, was the driver of a 2016 Kia Sportage which drove through the median from the southbound to the northbound side of the highway just before noon on Wednesday.
After crossing the median, McGonagle crashed head-on into a 2003 Honda Pilot being driven by a 55-year-old woman who was taken to Lawrence General Hospital with serious injuries, the Globe reported.
The passenger of the Honda, Nelson Rivera, 56, of Lawrence, was pronounced dead at the scene, as was McGonagle.
No information as to what caused McGonagle to cross the median was available.
The incident is under investigation by State Police.
