A 10-year-old New Hampshire boy’s trip to Boston for surgery this week turned into a wish come true after he got to meet his heroes: firefighters and the New England Patriots.

The boy, named Levi, and his parents arrived in Boston over the weekend from their home in Claremont, N.H., so that Levi could undergo surgery at Boston Children’s Hospital for a heart condition, said Marc Sanders, spokesman for the Boston Fire Department.

Knowing that Levi is a huge fan of first responders, his parents reached out to the fire department to see if he could meet some firefighters, and the fire department agreed to do that and more.

Firefighters from Engine 3 in South Boston picked Levi up from his hotel in a fire engine early Monday morning and took him to Boston Children’s for his surgery, which went well, Sanders said.

“We were happy to help the family and raise his spirits, especially around the holiday season,” Sanders said. “It was very rewarding on our end. We were just happy to help.”

After the surgery, Levi got to meet Boston Mayor Martin Walsh at City Hall, where Walsh set up a video call with several players on the New England Patriots, Levi’s favorite football team, as well as team owner Robert Kraft.

Levi’s time in Boston came to a close Wednesday night, but before heading back to New Hampshire, he stopped by the Engine 3 firehouse again to meet with the firefighters and get one last look at the fire engines, Sanders said.

“Most important was that he got a good report from [Boston] Children’s, the surgery was a success, and the mom and dad were very confident he was going to recover,” Sanders said.
