Man shot, killed in Dorchester in city’s first homicide of the year

A man in his 30s was shot and killed in Dorchester early on New Year’s Day in what officials say is the city’s first homicide of 2019.

A suspect still remained at large Tuesday morning after the man was shot outside a home on Johnston Road around 3 a.m., said Officer Kim Tavares, a Boston police spokeswoman.

Officials are still working to uncover the identity of the suspect, she said.

The victim was taken to the hospital “right from the scene,” Tavares said, and died later this morning. There was no evidence as to whether the victim was related to the homeowner, she said.

The shooting was reported to police by a third-party caller, Tavares said.

The investigation is ongoing. No other details were immediately available.
