Police on Wednesday arrested a 19-year-old South Boston resident for allegedly shooting a man on New Year’s Eve, and authorities seized two guns and ammunition from the suspect’s home.

In a statement, Boston police identified the alleged shooter as Yusuf Mohamed.

He faces multiple weapons charges and a count of assault with intent to murder stemming from the Dec. 31 shooting, which occurred around 2:15 p.m. in the area of 1439 Dorchester Ave. in Dorchester, the release said. The victim survived the attack.

Police also described the weapons they seized Wednesday night from Mohamed’s home on Orton Marotta Way.

“Officers executed a search warrant which led to the recovery of a 5.7 caliber FN Herstal handgun as well as a loaded .380 caliber Ruger LCP handgun with a laser sight,” the statement said.

Mohamed will be arraigned in Dorchester District Court. It wasn’t known whether he had hired a lawyer.
