Pipe bursts at Back Bay Station; transit not affected
Orange Line commuters Wednesday evening might have thought raindrops were falling as they waited for their train at Back Bay Station.
But it was a water pipe that burst in the busy station at 5:23 p.m. Boston firefighters responded to the scene and quickly turned off the water, said Brian Alkins, a spokesman for the Boston Fire Department.
The pipe burst and did not have any effect on transit services, MBTA spokesman Joe Pesaturo said in an e-mail.
“The water drained fairly quickly,” Pesaturo said. “Repairs will be made tonight.”
