For more than 60 years, the Globe covered the Yankee Rowe nuclear plant in western Massachusetts — from its construction in the 1950s to its closure in 1992. Almost three decades after it stopped producing power, highly radioactive waste remains on the site because the federal government failed to keep its promise to ship it away from Massachusetts.
