    New Bedford man charged in fatal stabbing

    A 55-year-old man has been charged with murder after he allegedly fatally stabbed a New Bedford man early on Sunday, according to the Bristol district attorney’s office.

    Police received a report of a stabbing during an altercation inside 291 Emerson St. shortly after midnight and found Steven Doyle, 27, suffering from a stab wound to the chest, prosecutors said in a statement.

    Doyle was rushed to St. Luke’s Hospital where he was later pronounced dead, the statement said.

    After speaking to witnesses, police arrested William Macomber of New Bedford, who was found in a car parked on Shawmut Avenue later that morning, officials said.

    Macomber will be arraigned for murder in New Bedford District Court on Monday morning, police said.
