One person dead after Portland apartment fire

One person was found dead after an apartment fire broke out in Portland, Maine on Monday afternoon, authorities said.

Shortly after 4 p.m., smoke was seen coming from the second floor of the three-story Burnham Hill Apartments on Ocean Avenue, Portland Fire Captain David Nichols said. When firefighters entered the apartment, they found that one person had died.

The fire was confined to the apartment and was extinguished in 10 minutes, Nichols said. A few other people were also displaced, he said. The fire is under investigation.
