A man was rescued Tuesday afternoon after he fell through ice on Willis Pond in Sudbury while cross country skiing, officials said.
Sudbury firefighters went onto the pond with an ice rescue sled and were able to bring the man to safety, the Sudbury Fire Department said in a statement. Sudbury police also responded.
The man was able to hold onto bushes to keep himself above the water, fire officials said.
He was transported to Emerson Hospital for evaluation.
“This is a great example of our firefighters putting their extensive training to use to help someone in need,” Sudbury Fire Chief John Whalen said in the statement.Andrew Stanton can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org. Follow him on Twitter @_andrewstanton.
