Millbury shooting threat was an apparent hoax

A caller threatened a mass shooting in Millbury early Tuesday morning, but the threat turned out to be an apparent hoax, State Police said.

Just past 1 a.m., a man called Millbury police and said he had a gun and planned to shoot anyone at the Wheelock Inn at 82 Wheelock Ave. in Millbury, according to a statement from State Police spokesman Dave Procopio.

Police lost contact with the caller, who had phoned from an Ohio number, Procopio said.

Millbury police and State Police responded to the call, as well as a SWAT team from the Southeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council. Upon arrival at the inn, the authorities found it to be empty, with no signs of recent entry, Procopio said.
