Waltham police officer injured after service weapon accidentally fires

A Waltham police officer was taken to the hospital after a service weapon accidentally fired Thursday morning, police said.

The department-issued firearm discharged outside on School Avenue in Waltham at 7:18 a.m., and the officer suffered a non-life-threatening injury, according to a Waltham police press release.

“The preliminary investigation revealed that no one else was involved or injured,” police said in the statement. “The incident is being treated as a personnel matter, as such, there will be no further comment.”

The officer was taken to an area hospital for treatment, police said.
