Texas truck driver arrested in NH on fugitive charge

A tractor trailer driver from Texas was arrested Tuesday by New Hampshire State Police on a charge of being a fugitive from justice during a routine commercial truck inspection on Interstate 93 in Sanbornton, authorities said.

Jeffrey D. Wight, 44, of Denison, Texas, was wanted on two felony warrants for illegally using credit cards, New Hampshire State Police said in a press release.

Wight was driving a 2017 Kenworth, towing a 2017 utility reefer trailer when a trooper pulled the truck over at the Sanbornton Rest Area on I-93 south, the release said.

While conducting the inspection, a trooper discovered Wight was wanted on outstanding warrants in Texas. Wight was placed under arrest without incident, and taken to the Merrimack County House of Corrections, State Police said.

He was held without bail, pending his arraignment on a fugitive from justice charge Wednesday at Belknap County Superior Court, the release said.

The trailer was towed from the scene.
