An American Airlines flight to New York was forced to return to Logan Airport after a bird strike during takeoff on Sunday, an airline spokesman said.

Flight 2163 to La Guardia had 99 passengers and four crew members on board when the strike occurred shortly after a 10:08 a.m. takeoff, according to Ross Feinstein in an e-mail.

The flight landed 11 minutes later, and passengers were taken to a replacement aircraft that took off at 11:52 a.m., he said.

The original plane, an Embraer E190, was inspected and was returned to service, Feinstein said.

A spokesman for the FAA, Jim Peters, said the agency will investigate. No injuries were reported, he said.
