A car crashed into a gas station convenience store in Brockton on Thursday night.

It happened at 945 Belmont St. when a motorist apparently lost control of her car.

“The vehicle jumped a curb and drove through bushes and the parking lot of the Shell gas station before crashing into the convenience store,” Brockton Police Department spokesman Darren Duarte wrote in an e-mail. “The male passenger exited the vehicle and took his son with him who was in the back. He and his son fled the area before emergency crews arrived.”

The driver, a 21-year-old woman, was taken by ambulance to Brockton Hospital with minor injuries. She is facing charges of reckless operation of a motor vehicle, destruction of property over $1,200, and a marked lanes violation, he said.

“The accident remains under investigation,” Duarte said.

The Brockton Fire Department posted a photo of the crashed car on Twitter.
