An 80-year-old woman was injured when a stray wheel flew over the median on Interstate 95 in Burlington and into her windshield on Saturday afternoon, State Police said.
At around 1:45 p.m., a Nissan pickup truck, driven by a 21-year-old woman from Reading, was traveling northbound when one of its wheels became dislodged and was launched into southbound traffic, Lieutenant Tom Ryan said.
The wheel smashed through the windshield of a GMC Acadia, which crashed into the median, he said. The driver, a woman from North Reading, was taken to Lahey Hospital and Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries, Ryan said. As of Saturday night, she remained at the hospital in stable condition, he said.
