The latest addition to the growing number of businesses that sell recreational marijuana in Greater Boston opened for business Saturday in Newton.
Garden Remedies at 697 Washington St. began selling recreational cannabis products to legal customers Saturday morning.
The Newton dispensary is open Monday to Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on an appointment-only basis per a special permit from the Newton City Council.
The first two customers of the day were Shaun Connolly, a Worcester comedian, and Luke Robinson, a musician from the band Seven, said Julia Wentworth, the company’s director of retail.

“It’s been tremendously fun — we couldn’t be happier with how today went,” Wentworth said.
Wentworth declined to specify how many appointments were made Saturday but said the opening-day crowd size was “extremely manageable for us all day.”
According to Garden Remedies, there were no issues to report.
“I think people are just so excited to finally do this and do it legally,” Wentworth said.
The Newton location was Garden Remedies’ first medical marijuana dispensary, opening in 2016. The company also operates a medical store in Melrose and is slated to open an adult-use store in Marlborough, the Globe has reported.
