A man was flown to Tufts Medical Center in Boston to be treated for serious injuries Sunday afternoon after the motorcycle he was riding was hit by a tow truck on Route 28 in Middleborough, fire officials said.

Middleborough police and fire officials responded to Route 28 between Smith and Miller streets after receiving a report of a motor vehicle crash at about 12:18 p.m., Fire Captain Dana Fontaine said.

“It appears that a tow truck crossed the road and came into contact with the motorcycle,” Fontaine said.

Route 28 was closed in both directions as a result of the crash, Jacquelyn Goddard, a spokeswoman for the Massachusetts Department of Transportation said in a tweet. The road reopened at about 4:15 p.m., Middleborough police said in a post on Facebook.

Middleborough police are investigating.
