Under bright blue skies, Boston warmed into the mid-80s Sunday, according to the National Weather Service, continuing a summery Memorial Day weekend that will likely come to an abrupt end Tuesday.

Weather is expected to cooperate for the holiday Monday, with a mild 70-degree high and more sun, forecasters said. But Tuesday, a gray day with a chance of rain in the afternoon and showers likely in the evening, will likely peak at 61.

And a wet workweek could follow, with a chance of precipitation Wednesday and Thursday, according to the weather service.

Temperatures are expected to balance out, however, with highs near 68 Wednesday, 83 Thursday, 75 Friday, and 74 Saturday, according to forecasters. Low temperatures will likely be a bit more consistent with temperatures near 53 degrees Tuesday and Wednesday mornings and near 62 Thursday and Friday mornings.

The sun is expected to make a return in time for the weekend, forecasters said.
