5-car crash shuts down part of Route 1 in Peabody briefly; one hurt

One person was hospitalized after a five-car crash shut down part of Route 1 on Wednesday morning in Peabody, officials said.

State Police were forced to shut down Route 1 northbound just before the jughandle to Interstate 95 after the multivehicle crash was reported around 9:15 a.m., State Police Sergeant Nicole Morrell said.

The road was reopened by 9:30 a.m. Morrell said it is unclear what caused the crash.

Peabody police and fire and a tow truck were also called to the scene. Morrell said at least one car was towed because of damage.
