The president of the Rhode Island chapter of the Hells Angels Motorcycle Club was arrested Wednesday afternoon after Rhode Island State Police investigated reports of shots fired near the Hells Angels Clubhouse in Providence, officials said.

Joseph Lancia, 28, of Greenville, is charged with assault, Rhode Island State Police said in a statement. He was arrested near the clubhouse at about 1:40 p.m. without incident.

He is expected to be arraigned Thursday at the Sixth Division District Court in Providence, State Police said.

The incident remains under investigation.
