Easton’s Town Meeting will consider allowing parking lots and banning public vaping when it meets the day before Halloween.
The Oct. 30 Special Town Meeting agenda also includes several financial matters. Proposals include spending $3.2 million on capital expenses that range from buying three police cruisers to replacing a water main, and authorizing money to cover newly contracted pay raises for various municipal employees.
A proposed zoning amendment would reverse current zoning rules that do not allow stand-alone parking lots in town, according to the Finance Committee. The committee backs the proposed change, which would allow the Planning Board to issue special permits for parking lots.
“As Easton is experiencing economic growth within several business districts, it is reasonable to expect either the town or a private owner would seek to construct a parking lot as a primary use on a parcel,” the Finance Committee said in its report.
The Finance Committee also supports a Board of Health proposal to add electronic cigarettes, cigars, pipes, and “other similar [smoking] products that rely on vaporization or aerosolization” to the list of smoking materials that are banned from public places in town. The ban would apply to “tobacco or non-tobacco product intended for inhalation in any manner or form.”
The Special Town Meeting wil be held at 7 p.m. at the Oliver Ames High School auditorium.
