Dedham’s governing board gets gender-neutral name

Dedham’s Board of Selectmen is no more; moving forward, the elected officials will be known as the “Select Board.”

Town Meeting voted on Nov. 26 to change the name, joining a growing number of communities opting for the gender-neutral designation.

Town Meeting also voted to ask the state Legislature to approve four additional restaurant/bar liquor licenses for Dedham: three in Legacy Place and one in Dedham Square.

The project was approved a year ago, but the financing method was successfully challenged at the Spring 2018 Town Meeting. The latest vote restored the original financing scheme.
