Walpole signs contract with new school superintendent
The Walpole School Committee signed a three-year contract with Bridget Gough, making her the new school superintendent effective July 1, when Lincoln Lynch III retires after 12 years on the job.
Gough is currently assistant superintendent, and the School Committee had asked her to apply for the superintendent position when Lynch announced in the fall of 2018 that he planned to leave.
The contract, approved Jan. 31, gives Gough a starting salary of $187,000 to lead the 3,845-student district.
A former teacher, Gough was principal of Walpole’s Bird Middle School before becoming assistant superintendent in May 2018. She has been with the Walpole Public Schools for 26 years.
The School Committee is now looking for a new member to replace Michael Ryan, who resigned effective Jan. 21 “due to increased demands” from his job. He had been on the School Committee, off and on, for 15 years.
Those interested in the position have until Friday, Feb. 15 to apply to the School Committee or Board of Selectmen, which have scheduled a joint meeting on Feb. 26 to appoint a replacement.
