Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey has weighed in on the contentious Democratic primary in the Massachusetts Seventh Congressional District, backing Boston City Councilor Ayanna Pressley over 10-term incumbent Mike Capuano of Somerville.

Healey announced her endorsement Monday morning in a fund-raising e-mail sent to supporters of both Healey and Pressley. Coming about a month ahead of the Sept. 4 primary, this was the biggest endorsement yet for Pressley. (Though musician Questlove reaffirmed his endorsement of Pressley on social media over the weekend.)

“I am deeply honored to receive the endorsement of my friend Maura Healey,” Pressley said in a statement. “Maura is a trailblazer who, since she took office more than three years ago, has been on the front lines, fighting on behalf of the people of Massachusetts on a number of critical issues, from predatory lending practices and gun control to environmental threats and efforts to undermine reproductive freedom.”

Capuano, meanwhile, has gotten the bulk of prominent endorsements, including former Massachusetts governor Deval Patrick, Boston Mayor Martin J. Walsh and even civil rights activist and Georgia US Representative John Lewis.

The Seventh Congressional District includes most of Boston, Cambridge, Somerville, Chelsea and Everett.
