City receives park grants

Mayor James J. Fiorentini has announced that the city has secured two state grants to improve Haverhill’s parks, cemeteries, and playgrounds. A $250,000 grant will allow the city to remove trees and make improvements to two city-owned historic cemeteries, on Water and Salem streets. A second grant will provide the funds to make improvements, including a spray park and perhaps walking trails, to Swasey’s Field, which is off Broadway on Blaisdel street. State Representative Brian Dempsey and state Senator Steven Baddour lobbied to obtain the grants for the city. - Brenda J. Buote
